Facing Spiritual Warfare in Your Business or Ministry?

Let’s get this straight – spiritual warfare is real. Facing spiritual warfare in your business or ministry is a reality for anyone who is committed to fulfilling a God-given call and living a life of faith in business and ministry. However, we have no reason to worry because Jesus Christ has already conquered the enemy, even though we walk through the victory in our day-to-day life.

Ephesians 6:12 –

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Here are a few key points from the passage.

  1. There is a struggle
  2. There are entities called rulers
  3. There are powers
  4. There are world forces of darkness
  5. There are spiritual forces of wickedness
  6. There are heavenly places

In order to grasp the reality of spiritual warfare, we have to embrace the reality that there’s more to this world than what we see with our natural eyes. The only way to wrestle biblically is to follow the instructions from Scripture.

John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Ephesians 6:11-17 –  “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

Psalm 44:5“Through You we will push back our adversaries, through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us.”

Romans 8:37 “In all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

1 Corinthians 15:57“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Psalms 91:1-4 “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart…”

When spiritual warfare comes, stand firm. The enemy has three goals in everything he does – kill, steal, and destroy, but Jesus already has the victory over the enemy.

Keep a strategy in place to help you overcome when facing spiritual warfare

  • Draw close to God
  • Correct anything that you are doing that may have opened a door to the attack (rebellion, ignored sin, disunity among Christians, pride, etc)
  • Ask for forgiveness, and redirect the behavior to honor God.
  • Worship
  • Quote scripture regarding the situation (Matthew 4:1-11)
  • Stay on course to honor God
  • Pray fervently
  • Fast
  • Stay in the company of other followers of Christ

My favorite story in the Bible is Joshua and the conquest of Canaan. The Israelites were given the land, yet they had to fight to possess the land. There was a battle at every level, but God gave them the victory every time. The only way they lost was when disobedience entered their camp.

As marketplace ministers, we have work to do, and resistance is a part of the journey. However, what God has called us to do, He is fully able to see it through.

Stay strong my friends! He will see you through.
