How God Uses an Interruption to Reset Your Life

The Covid-19 virus interrupted life around the world. It’s rare in history (even in the Bible) that the entire world has to take a “timeout” because of the same interruption. Although it’s a tough situation, gaining an understanding of How God uses an Interruption to Reset Your Life helps you see beyond the challenge and into your new normal–your reset.

In the Bible, when a major, life-altering event happened, a reset quickly followed.

When the plagues fell on Egypt, God wasn’t just freeing his people from slavery, but leading them to freedom in their promised land (Exodus 7:14–11:30).

When the rain came with Noah (Genesis 5-10), God re-established His people and reset them completely.

God re-established Esther’s life when she went before the king. She experienced a reset when she became queen as God positioned her to save her people from destruction (Read the story in the book of Esther).

When Joseph was sold into slavery, God re-established him to lead and protect his people, resetting his life and all of his people (Genesis 37-50).

Through the crucifixion and resurrection, Jesus conquered death for all who follow Him. This victory established a new era and reset the earth from the fall of Adam and Eve to the freedom to live by faith. (Read the Gospels).

Today, resets are still happening.

During Covid-19, the world paid attention as we experienced a reset. There are many ways of life that changed forever. Now, the key focus is for you to identify How God desires to use the interruption to reset your life personally and professionally.

As things change, your job is to stay focused on Him and refuse to give up! Listen to this short video and subscribe to hear more like this:

Here’s how an interruption creates a reset –

  • The interruption makes you stop. When you stop, the interruption forces you to reflect on your life. That’s when you consider how and what God wants to rest.
  • The Interruption makes you look to God for answers. He wants you to draw closer to Him and seek His plan for your life. The interruption makes you think about God and reset your life by matching your plan with His plan.
  • The Interruption makes you deal with change. When change happens, decisions have to be made whether or not you like it.
  • The interruption increases your capacity. The interruption is difficult, but when you rise above the challenge, it forces you to stretch yourself. It prepares you to manage what God has planned for your future.
  • The interruption makes you think. The uncertainty of the future makes you think more strategically than before the interruption.
  • The interruption removes crutches. When you make new decisions and embrace change, you will probably have to stand on your own. Many of your friends and family will not change with you.
  • The interruption tests relationships. The change will create a need to let some people stay behind as you move forward.
  • The interruption makes you evaluate your life. An interruption makes you become more strategic as you consider your past decisions and embrace needed corrections.
  • The interruption makes you change your direction. An interruption causes you to stop. It alters your direction and creates a need to find new ways to press forward.
  • The interruption causes you to make tough “It’s One O’Clock” decisions that you normally would not make.

These interruptions have two parts before they become effective. One part is the interruption itself and what it causes. The second part is your response. If you respond correctly, your life catapults forward and will never be the same. If you passively use the interruption as a vacation, without embracing the new opportunity, life still won’t be the same, but you won’t receive the benefit of the positive outcome that was available to you. In other words – “You have to want it. You have to fight for it.”

Have you read the story of Joshua and the conquest of Canaan? It is one of my favorite Bible Studies to facilitate (The book of Joshua). The big news from that lesson is that although they gave Joshua and his people the promised land, they still had to fight before they possessed it. There was opposition standing in the way of their own land! They had to fight for what was already theirs.

Ouch!

Seek God’s guidance as you respond to your interruptions. Be willing to fight for your new direction. Make a commitment to walk through the challenge and be different on the other side.
