Before I tell you Five Essential Commitments for Every Marketplace Ministry, click here to understand what’s a Marketplace Ministry.
If you feel a call of God on your life and you want to answer that call AND you can incorporate your call AND your business together, then you have an amazing opportunity to influence people where they least expect it – in business.
Through your own MIB, you create ways to answer your call in the same place where you earn your income. You don’t have to quit your job to start your ministry. The people on your job need to see you in action, serving God and being available and visible. They should not have to go to church to see what it means to be Christ-like – not when they can see it in you!
When you have a proven track record in business AND you have the courage to openly serve God, that takes your witness to a new level. It’s a recipe to attract more people to your faith and the opportunity for growth.
If you are thinking about turning your business in a Ministry in Business take a look at these Five Essential Commitments for Every Marketplace Ministry –
- Stick with your original commitment. When you start your MIB, you make a commitment to create ways to honor God first in your business. Honoring God means caring about people, first. So, when your opportunity comes to make more money, but requires you to deviate slightly from putting God first, then you stay with the original plan and put God first, even if it costs you. Yes, even if it costs you!
- Be bold and courageous. Once you begin to be successful in your business AND your ministry, someone will try to discredit you. When they can’t stop you, they try to stop people from believing in you. Still, don’t deviate. Stick with the plan and take your battles to God. If He started your MIB, trust him to protect it.
- Love people with authenticity. If you grow your MIB and become successful in your business, but you alienate people and have no positive influence, you may be success in your business, but your ministry will suffer. You can’t have a Ministry in Business without loving people. When you listen and show you care, be authentic. Take the time needed to let your customers and your team know they matter.
- Embrace a lifestyle of prayer. When you operate a Ministry in Business, you are going against the normal business culture and it WILL need a lot of prayer. You will make decisions based on the Bible instead of just profits. You will move in directions based on how you are led by God instead of just trends. All of these moves will require humility and prayer – everyday!
- Be the Best. A MIB sets the example for excellence in business and money. If there are sales quotas, break a record! If you have people goals, exceed the expectation. Be clean in your management and wise in your growth strategies. Be so authentic in business that people want to know more about you, your faith, and your business.
A MIB is still a business. It’s just designed to house a ministry opportunity. It’s important to find your passion in the business, while the business supports your passion.
For example, I am an encourager. My ministry is helping people overcome the obstacles that stop them from doing what God calls them to do. I run my ministry, primarily, through my insurance agency called Vision Guard. Yes, I said Insurance! I call people. I meet people and every time I meet a prospective client, I ask questions like –
“So, what would it take for you to feel good about how you spend your day?”
What are you gifted to do?
I ask even more questions and I try to discover how to help them plan for the future that they want. I also get to ask them if God is calling them to do anything.
In the end, yes, we talk about insurance and annuities. But we spend even more time talking about their future, offering me an opportunity to share my faith and make a difference in their life. We have fun and my client know I care!
I enjoy my business AND my ministry all in one place and you can too.
I hope you will register on this site as we support each other in our MIB and thrive in Marketplace Ministry. We’ll have tools, resources, and events to help you manage and thrive.
