Taming the Thoughts that Slow You Down and Stop Your Progress

Put Your thought Life In Check

I continue to be amazed by the power of inner thoughts. You think your conscious mind is running the show when your inner thoughts are revealing the truth about what you really believe, or used to believe. Thoughts are the quiet dynamite able to shut down the best intentions. That’s why Taming the Thoughts That Slow You Down and Stop Your Progress is a skill that progressive people need. A Practice called Morning Pages might be your solution.

When you decide to start a ministry, thoughts pop in your mind saying, “They’re not going to listen to you. Plus, you don’t have the money to start a ministry.”

Then, you tell yourself, I’m going to stop doing this or that.” Your thoughts say, “We have been doing this and that for years, we can’t stop now.” You barely get to consider what you want before you get bombarded with a toxic thought telling you why it won’t work.

Your thought life determines your outcomes more than you think. Those hidden thoughts guide your emotions, override your intentions and create actions that contradict your plans.

The solution

Identify and slay your negative subconscious thoughts and make your thoughts align with the changes you are making in your life.

In her book, Switch on Your Brain, Dr Caroline Leaf explains that as we consciously direct our thinking, we can wire our toxic patterns of thinking and replace them with healthy thoughts.

One of the easiest ways to tame those toxic thought patterns is to adapt a habit of writing Morning Pages every day.

What are Morning Pages?

Morning Pages are 3 pages of notes about your random thoughts. This practice was first introduced by Julia Cameron in her book The Artist’s Way in 1992. (While the book is not Bible based, it has some  spiritual concepts and excellent theories.) Morning Pages are like self imposed therapy sessions where you write down random thoughts to get them out of your head instead of allowing them to lurk in your mind unchecked and ruling your day.

Write about whatever comes to your mind and get rid of your sensor that tries to block true feelings. Instead, go ahead and let it all out: silly sayings, angry tirades and insecurities,”There is no right or wrong way to do Morning Pages,” Cameron writes.

Try it. You might be surprised at how focused you become. When you get rid of the clutter in your mind your creative self shines through, you get past your fears and most of all you shut the door to your  inner critic paving the way for your creative energy.

In Marketplace Ministry, for profit or non-profit, doing Morning Pages daily is an excellent way to stay focused on new ways to operate. Your creativity is so important. There is no room for blockages. Every tool makes a difference. Let me know how this works for you.
