How to Stay True Your Purpose

Purpose changes everything. There are few things in life more important than knowing your purpose and finding a place to do what you feel called to accomplish. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you feel a sense of purpose. Problems that bother other people are manageable for you because you see a bigger picture. Knowing how to stay true to your purpose is vital for winning your battles and enjoying your journey. Purpose determines how you view life and how you experience every heartbeat. It drives every decision you make.

The call to fulfill a purpose is different for each person. For me, it started with a tugging at my heart to make a difference in the lives of others. I decided to focus on Marketplace Ministry. I furthered my education, wrote a book, became a certified life coach, started Ministry in Business / Purpose in Business and will launch my online courses later this year. I see the value in a life well-lived. I believe we still live beyond death and in that place, how we live now matters (Romans 14:12)

What are you doing about what you believe?

God created us with a radar that seeks to fulfill an assignment that God placed in us. Our job is to discover what that something is, and go do it. I believe the only route to completing this task is faith. Don’t make it complicated. Follow God and He will lead you so you won’t miss it.

How about you?

What drew you to living purposefully? How did you become bold enough to take your gifts and talents with you wherever you go? Is the feeling still strong? It’s easy to feel a desire to take your gifts and talents to the world. However, staying true to your purpose and commitment requires focus, humility and sacrifice. It’s not easy, but it’s worth every moment.

Before you answer these questions, let’s talk about why it’s so important to stay true to your purpose. (For those who aren’t sure about your purpose, stay tuned. That’s the topic of my next post).

When you decide to do the right thing, you’ll get an offer to do the wrong thing. A plan that honors God always gets an offer to turn the other way.

You start off with a no nonsense resolve to go all out for your beliefs. This part is easy. An event where you see an unmet need often sparks a new commitment that leads to purpose (often because of a wrong that you experience). Then, God touches your heart and brings clarity and a deeper revelation of Him and how you fit in His kingdom agenda.

As time passes, challenges threaten your commitment, but you withstand the pressure and become stronger and more resilient. You gain greater spiritual authority and you don’t break as easily as you did before the challenge. When you stay true to your purpose, you grow through the successes and failures. You can’t lose when you won’t stop?

Eventually, God opens new doors and adjustments become a part of the process. You need wisdom to make the right decisions and stay on the path towards the bulls-eye of your goal. Stay away from decisions that take you slightly to the right or left. Overtime, the gap widens, sending you far off course.

To stay true to your purpose, make these simple changes and enjoy enormous benefits for your business and ministry. These changes will also keep you on the path to your purpose.

Change is growth, that is, if you look for new opportunities

  1. Start believing how important you are. You are God’s awesome creation! He created you with one-of-a kind attributes, gifts and talents.
  2. Stop underestimating the degree that the enemy wants to stop you from being who God wants you to be.
  3. Listen to what God tells you to do and how and when He wants it done. Then do it exactly the way He leads you.

Want to know how to stay true to your purpose?

  • Write it down in a clear statement
  • Meditate on what God is calling you to accomplish
  • Take real, measurable steps every day
  • Never speak a negative word about your call
  • Speak only positive words about your ability to answer the call.
  • Stay away from people who don’t see the good in you.
  • Be bold
  • Be authentic
  • Be you!
  • Trust God and know His Word

Remember, small compromises multiply and bring big consequences. Don’t look to the left or right. Stay on course and let God’s joy in the purpose carry you forward.

Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.” (Proverbs  4:25-27)
