There are many ways to influence the environment at work. You can help grow profits, lead a team, and be a great example. If you tell people about the goodness of God, its a big deal to do all three. After that, there are many ways to make a difference, including learning how to create a small group Bible study at work.
Before we go any further, please remember – your small group Bible study should not be something that bothers people at work. Instead, it’s a way to come together and encourage each other through authentic relationships and the Scriptures.
Learn how to create a small group Bible study at work and be the one who people look to when they need advice and a loving person to listen.
I know. The first thing that comes to mind for most employees is, “My company will never allow a Bible study at work.”
You may also be thinking, “I don’t want to offend anyone.”
Both of those thoughts are valid, but, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a Bible study at work. Check out these key points to consider:
- You can’t force people to care about God, Jesus, or Bible study. Your job is to be an encouraging example and be available when an opportunity comes. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in your situation and leave the rest to God (John 16: 13-14, John 15:26).
- Even if the environment at work is toxic, do your work as unto God, not the people (Colossians 3:23). Bring your “A” game to the work environment. Be a high producer. Solve problems. Help achieve the company’s goals. Here’s a video that will help – The Lure of the Detour.
- Be easy to get along with. (Don’t be the odd guy that people don’t want to be around.) Seek to work and operate with a peaceful deameanor (Romans 12:18).
- Avoid useless arguments about religion and the Bible. If someone is searching for answers, help them. Be open and inviting. Make it easy for people to talk to you. But, be careful when a person just wants to argue to prove you wrong. That’s not a good conversation to join (Matthew 15:14).
Now, let’s discuss How to Create a Small Group Bible Study at Work.
Get to know your co-workers. With your authentic, inviting, friendly disposition, get to know the people you work with. Try to find out where people are spiritually. Are they church-goers, open to a conversation, anti-Bible? Don’t try to correct anyone initially, just get to know them respectively. Spend some time praying for your coworkers and helping when needed. Share your thoughts and let them me attracted to the truth in action.
Plan Your Bible Study. Now that you are getting to know your co-workers, choose the best approach for your Bible Study. You can have it online, use an app like Zoom and meet via video, find a place to meet before/after work, or meet in a home on the weekend. If your environment at work allows it, you can also meet in a conference room during lunch. Yes, it’s a work Bible study, but you don’t have to meet in the office.
What to Study? One of the plans for The Extra Life Market Ministry is to develop small group Bible studies for work and home. Plan the details. Before you start inviting people, make some plans. Where will you meet? If its online, also plan some face to face time, just for fun so you can get to know each other and have better community. After you choose your study topic and location, decide how long you will meet. Start off with something like six weeks. Don’t make it too long or too hard. Give everyone time to adjust to the commitment they are making.
Make it Interesting. Doing Bible study should be interesting with laughs, creativity, and plenty conversation.
