Before You Start Your Marketplace Ministry

Recently, I received a letter from a reader preparing to step out with an amazing for-profit ministry idea (which I call a Ministry in Business or MIB). Before you start your marketplace ministry, consider his concern.

He has a great idea, but like most of us, is concerned about the ability to actually make money.

So, for the next week, we’ll be focusing on the money making side of a Ministry in Business.
I am on a mission to help people bring their ministry and business together. It is a highly effective ministry opportunity that bridges the divide between ministry and business. It also prepares us to support our ministry needs even when the non-profit status is challenged (that’s what I believe will eventually happen).
First of all, make sure your business idea is creative, needed, and with income earning potential – all while God get’s the glory! I run an insurance agency as my ministry in business. My clients get prayer, life skills guidance, honesty and integrity, a loving culture at work, and income earning coaching – and we are just getting started. We plan to implement a Bible Study at our office, a career center, and events to encourage people who have a ministry in business.
If you are thinking about developing your own MIB, the only way to know if you are really ready is to start now by stepping into the shallow water and learning what you don’t know. I get contacted by people who step into their MIB, but are met with regulations, marketing challenges, costs, fees, and other growth needs that hinder their income earning potential. If you can identify your challenges and start on the solutions while you have other income, that will help you have a good start.
Most of us are eager to get out there and do what we are passionate about while earning the income that we are capable of making. But stepping out to soon is costly.

BUT, waiting too long is costly too!

You don’t want to stay in the old place and let fear and resentment begin to rule in your daily life.
Spend some time in prayer. Ask God, “Is it time.” If you feel like He is moving you in the direction, now, then ask, “What do I need to do.” Allow Him to guide you AND plan to work harder than you ever have for another person.
Yes! But the reward of being in the bullseye of God’s Word will never wear you out.
Let’s GO FOR IT together!
We are planning to step up our tools to assist you as well. So stay tuned.
