Almost everyone seeks a great opportunity. People are waiting to win, waiting  for the right relationship, waiting for the promotion, and waiting for the big  break through. That wait can be difficult when weeks turn into months, even years. What if you could do something to create your own opportunity while you’re waiting?

What if you are waiting for God to change something while He is waiting for you to do something?

With a few adjustments and intentional transitions, you can begin to create your own opportunities today!

“Opportunities are often created before they are needed.”

You may have heard the story of David slaying Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. This wasn’t the first time that David had to defend himself. Take a look at 1 Samuel 17:34 – 37:

But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God. And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.

David knew how to slay a Goliath because he slayed animals before the giant ever appeared. He learned to fight in an obscure place, so he was ready for victory in the important place. The same truth applies to you.

Here are five strategies to help you stop waiting and begin to create your own opportunities.

  1. Practice presence everywhere you go.

Your actions matter in secret places and crowded places. Being prepared can make the difference between being ignored and making the prized connection that catapults you to the next level.

  1. Align yourself with like-minded people.

There is a synergy that happens when you align yourself with other like-minded people and go beyond your own ability. You will meet new people, find new resources, and get new ideas and concepts. Make sure you are being legitimate in your relationship as you seek to align yourself.

  1. Go over and above what most people do.

Many people are very average in their efforts. Others will gladly pass on responsibility, hard work, and diligence in an attempt to avoid discomfort and sacrifice. This approach to life leaves an open door for you. I heard Devi Titus call it the, “And Then Principle.” You do what is expected, and then you take it to the next level, and then you go one step further. That type of commitment can’t be ignored. lt gives you a huge edge over others, causing a light to shine on you and the gifts that you bring to every situation. When you live by this principle, new opportunities are certain to find you.

  1. Leverage your creativity in a manner that can’t be duplicated.

Creativity is an amazing gift from God. Only He can create something from nothing.  You can use you creativity to add a unique touch to a situation that can’t be duplicated. You can make something average become something special, interesting and powerful. Use your creativity to bring about a change to a project or assignment that takes the outcome to a new level. That type of contribution will always be in great demand.

 5. Brand Yourself

When people think of you, what comes to their mind? That is your brand. People don’t think of you based on who you think you are. They think of you based on what they see you do and hear you say. If you are habitually late, they see you as the person who is never on time. If you are always complaining or criticizing, they see you as someone who is somewhat difficult to be around. On the other hand, If you are positive and upbeat, they see you as a person who is a pleasure to be with. If you are known for offering solutions and bringing creativity and energy to an environment, they see you as someone who they enjoy being around and would recommend for a job or opportunity. Make it clear who you are, and what you represent. Then, set your mind on aligning everything in your life with the truth of who you really are. Your new brand will help create your new opportunities.

When you combine these principles with your own talent and skill, it creates a synergistic reaction, setting new opportunities in motion. You may feel like you are ready for your great opportunity. But . . .

If no one knows how talented you are, then your ability is simply a well-kept secret. It’s time to let the secret out!
