Praying for Your Work

The Extra Life post called Why You Should Pray for Your CoWorkers is the second most read post at the Extra Life Marketplace Ministry, only behind the most read post – 16 Reasons to Consider a For-Profit Status for your Ministry. Praying for your work is different from praying for your business because praying for your work focuses on your daily activity. With over a thousand people per month reading our posts about prayer at work, we decided to take it a step further. Why? Because prayer is not just for church. It’s for everyone!

Pray for your work before you get started.

Your work starts when you plan. It influences the people you work with, your clients, customers, and everyone who is connected to your daily activity. It makes a difference to you, your family and your future. The success of your work starts with your daily habits and every move you make to get the job done, especially if you operate according to the 8 Principles of a Ministry in Business. All of this activity needs prayer.

Pray for each activity on your schedule.

If you’ve read my posts, you’ve heard me mention how I use my business income to pay the expenses for The Extra Life Marketplace Ministry. A short while ago, I was on a mission to increase my business income. The plan worked well. My strategy was simple – help more people in my financial business than I helped the previous month. It worked well, but I started noticing something. My paperwork was being stalled. I don’t know exactly what was happening, but there were way too many delays. So, I prayed for every part of my daily activity.

I prayed for the people before I talked to them. I prayed for my underwriters. I prayed with people. I asked God to guide me, tell me what to say, give me insight. I prayed for no delays. I asked for wisdom to know who to work with and who to avoid. I asked God to help me be a positive influence as I help people. When I reviewed my daily calendar, I asked God to guide me and bless my day as well as the people that I planned to meet. Then I asked God to help me stay focused on what mattered most – I am passionate about my business, but it’s my ministry that changes lives. So, I asked God to help me stay focused on the main thing.

Things started changing.

The slow down went away. People started being open to talk to me. They started approaching me! My business started growing and the administrative issues slowed down. It’s still work. But it’s effective and growing. That’s exactly what I wanted.

Consider this . . .

Anytime you make up your mind to do the right thing, the wrong things will make you an offer. There’s something about trying to do what’s right that attracts alternative offers – that’s another reason to start praying for your work. I will go a step further and say that it is doubtful that you will accomplish major, meaningful business milestones without developing a lifestyle of prayer.

Of course, there are many financially successful business people who don’t value prayer. But that’s not the kind of success that I am referring to. I mean the kind of success that changes lives. It’s not just about making money, it’s about being fulfilled in your daily work as you enjoy success at work and in your ministry.

Now, that’s work praying for!
