It’ Showtime! Welcome to Day 2 of our James 1:2-4 devotional. We’re taking the stage and reflecting on the powerful invitation to pursue maturity in Christ.

How did it feel the meditate on the verse? Did any words stick out specifically?

As you meditate on the passage, you’ll begin to understand what Hebrews 4:12 means when it says, For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

When you get into the Bible, it will get into you!

Day 2: Learn to handle the tough roles – Joy in The Midst of Trials

God does some of His greatest work in our hearts when we are facing difficulties. How can you be joyful when things are tough? Redirect your focus beyond your circumstances. Pray and ask God, “What do you want from me in this situation?” As you draw closer to Him and what He desires for you today, you will begin to experience a level of joy that only God can give. Joy doesn’t mean you don’t still have pain. It means the pain doesn’t have you.

Also engage in activities that honor God like serving, giving, and praying for others. Take the time needed to heal and be careful not to isolate yourself. Finally, be willing to take a tough stand if necessary to help you move forward. (There’s more about how to take a tough stand in my upcoming book – It’s One O’Clock.) When you’re on God’s side, hanging tough is never a waste of time.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4
